The Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation is the undisputed professional credential for persons who are seeking to master the subject of commercial lines coverage. Created by the staff of the renowned FC&S bulletins with the learning needs of new insurance producers, agents, managers, CSRs and corporate staff in mind, the CLCS is the most complete professional learning program available for industry professionals.

Students completing the CLCS program have demonstrated extensive knowledge in a critical functional area of property and casualty insurance practice-insurance policy coverage, and will have applied that knowledge in real-life case study exercises.

Curriculum

The CLCS curriculum is based on the most important document in the insurance industry: the insurance policy. The curriculum is presented through four Coverage Guides and five e-Learning programs (Insurance Principles is solely delivered through an e-learning course). Materials are adapted from expert insurance coverage materials produced by the staff of The FC&S Bulletins and Coverage Guide Series.

Candidates must earn a score of 80% or above on an examination for each of the following courses:

  • Insurance Principles
     
  • Business Auto Explained
     
  • Commercial Property Explained
     
  • CGL Explained
     
  • Workers Compensation Explained

Examination Requirements

Each of the 5 exams contains 50 questions and is taken online (access instructions will be provided upon registration). Students who do not pass an exam may purchase exam retakes for $25 per retake. Exam progress can be monitored on www.CoverageSpecialist.com. Once all exams have been passed, the student will have access to a Request for Certificate form which must be mailed in to obtain the CLCS certificate and designee benefit package.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications is to be eligible for the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation:

  • Licensed agent, broker, adjuster, CSR or solicitor
     
  • At least one year of full-time experience in the insurance industry or as a risk management practitioner
     
  • Students of insurance academies authorized to confer the CLCS designation
